Calik joins the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Jeans Redesign project as part of its pledge to the circular economy!
We’re proud to announce our participation in the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Jeans Redesign Project as part of our commitment to create jeans fit for a circular economy.
Creating circular products is nothing new to Calik, but we are committed to collaborate with like minded brands and industry wide suppliers to bring positive change and create economies of scale. Our participation in the project will not only drive new innovations from within, but it will allow us to learn, share and to use the guidelines to develop jeans that are used more, made to be made again, and made from safe and recycled or renewable inputs. The Jeans Redesign aims to demonstrate how a garment can be designed and made for a circular economy. Participants have aligned behind a set of common guidelines and definitions and, in making them a reality, have identified solutions, opportunities to overcome barriers, and innovation gaps to scaling. The Jeans Redesign guidelines define a starting point for industry to design and make products in accordance with the principles of a circular economy to ensure durability, material health, recyclability, and traceability, and lay out the detailed requirements that must be achieved. In the two years since the guidelines were created, there’s now 94 organisations, including brands, retailers, garment manufacturers, fabric mills and laundries that have committed to and taken action to make fabric and jeans in line with these guidelines. Building on what has been learnt and growing momentum to transform the fashion industry, we believe that now is the time to take bold action, towards the common vision of a circular economy for fashion. No one organisation can overcome these barriers alone. It’s only through the mutual collaboration with The Jeans Redesign Project and the concerted efforts of the industry as a whole that we can truly create a circular economy for jeans.
