These initiatives were started by denim addicts to share their passion, knowledge, and experience. The decade afterward, the 1980s was about washings and treatments and bringing denim to a new level. Also, made in Europe denim brands became more popular too. In the 1990s and onward, jeans reached a new level and were seen since then in all different kinds of price levels, cultures, styles, colors, and so on. Denim had grown into the cornerstone of each outfit. It’s the piece of clothing that will be better with age, and each pair of jeans tells a story. Denim: From Cowboys to Catwalk is written by Graham Marsh and Paul Trynka, and published by Aurum Press Limited. The first edition with 128 pages was printed on October 1st, 2002. The first edition was a larger hardcover book, while the reprint has a softcover and is also published in a smaller size. This book features all the important eras and milestones in denim. From miners, cowboys, farmers, to 1950s teens to pioneering brands, rare denim styles, and icons wearing denim. This book covers all you need to know as a starting point in your denim journey.

2. Blue Blooded

Blue Blood is written by Thomas Stege Bojer and Josh Sims, published by Gestalten in May 2016. This heavy hardcover book with original denim fabric cover features 256 pages. The book highlights the story of denim and its culture. From indigo, weaving, brands, innovators in the denim industry, to how denim is made, how to treat your denim, and unique denim stories from midsized to big denim players.

3. Jeans of the Old West

Jeans of the Old West is written by Michael Allen Harris and is published by Schiffer in 2010. The second (revised) edition with additional info came out in 2016. This 192 pages book dives into the start of denim brands that were produced for miners in the Old West frontier of San Francisco in the mid/late 1800s. It features never seen pictures of antique miner’s denim worn in the frontier communities of Nevada and California, including Levi’s denim that is over 120 years old. With over 300 color photos and illustrations chronicle examples, patent drawings, and the histories of the manufacturers this book is invaluable information for fashion historians and collectors alike.

4. True Fit: A Collected History of Denim

True Fit is written by Viktor Fredbäck and Rickard Eklund, and the photographs are taken by Fredrick Ottoson. The hardcover book with 272 pages is published by Graphera Publishing in November 2014. The book is the story of jeans’ genesis and evolution. It presents the birth of the garment in the mid-1870s and follows its evolution a hundred years forward in time. The account of the history of jeans also reveals that the garment makes up an integral part of American heritage. The book highlights the collection of Swedish collector Viktor Fredbäck who travels to old silver mines in the Nevada desert in hopes of digging up historic jeans from the 1800s. This is the story of his passion and how each garment fits into his great historical puzzle. Through this book, he shows for the first time his unique collection.

5. Denimbranded

Denimbrand is written by Nick Williams and co-author Jenny Corpuz. The hardcover book with 264 pages is published by Schiffer in October 2018. The book focuses on Nick Williams’ dedication to denim branding and deconstructs every element that goes into branding a pair of jeans. These elements are a jeans' identity, its source code, a marker from which to discover the jeans' provenance. Through beautiful and inspirational photography, this book tells the fascinating and sometimes surprising history of denim branding from the 1870s to the current day. Next to classic denim brands, newer denim initiatives are included as well. The book is eye-candy for denim enthusiasm, but also graphic designers in general.
